Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights Celebrates International Women's Day in Norrköping |
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights organized a seminar at Norrköping City Library on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The event began with a speech by Nuha Abdulahad from the organization's women's division, highlighting the significance of the day and the resilience of Middle Eastern women in transforming hardships into inspiring success stories.
Jamil Diarbakerli, the organization's executive director, led a discussion with Ester Chanko titled "Successful Middle Eastern Women in Society." Chanko shared her journey of overcoming challenges in Sweden, balancing family life with personal growth, and becoming the first foreign-born woman to drive trams and buses in the city. She emphasized the importance of self-confidence, knowledge, and determination in achieving one’s goals.
Following the discussion, the audience shared their insights and experiences. Poet George Talani recited a touching poem dedicated to women on their special day.
The seminar concluded with Jamil Diarbakerli presenting the organization’s honorary award to Ester Chanko, recognizing her as an inspiring role model for Middle Eastern women in Swedish society.
