The Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights in Damascus, Syria, reports a catastrophic humanitarian crisis gripping the Suwayda province, affecting over one million people. The region is suffering from severe to near-total shortages of water and electricity, compounded by a drastic scarcity of essential food supplies and medicine.

This crisis coincides with escalating calls for the opening of border crossings or the establishment of urgent humanitarian corridors to facilitate the delivery of much-needed aid. However, the concerned authorities, in a manner that raises serious suspicions of complicity, are actively preventing the entry of humanitarian aid. Simultaneously, reports indicate that armed elements from Arab tribes are being allowed into the area to support Bedouins in Suwayda against the local population. This blatant contradiction fuels the cycle of violence and further complicates an already dire situation, all occurring amidst a complete absence of any official intervention to protect civilians.

The Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights urges all concerned parties and international organizations to intervene immediately to end this complicity that exacerbates the humanitarian catastrophe, and to provide urgent humanitarian support and protect civilians in the Suwayda province.
